SUMMER JAM CONCERT SERIES, July 17 to August 14
Ashkenaz and Magen Boys Entertainment are teaming up for the first time this summer to present a FREE concert series bringing downtown music festival vibes to North Toronto. The three-show series at Earl Bales Park is inspired by the 50th anniversary of the legendary July 1973 “Summer Jam at Watkins Glen” Raceway in upstate NY, a massive one-day festival that drew a record crowd of over 600,000 (more than Woodstock!).
Andalusian soul, Jewish bluegrass and Yiddish funk will mingle with psychedelia, southern rock, and Americana, as each of this summer’s concerts pairs a Jewish roots artist with an act paying tribute to one of the three iconic jambands that were featured in the original 1973 festival: The Band, Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band. These eclectic and unexpected musical pairings will be unified by their celebration of community, creativity and the power of music, all in an idyllic park setting.
Shows take place on Monday evenings July 17, 31 and August 14, starting at 7pm, in Area 5 at Earl Bales Park (4169 Bathurst St.). Note there is no seating for these events so bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair, or just stay on your feet and dance all night long on the grass.
(In case of inclement weather please check our website and social media channels for updates on concert status and possible use of alternate indoor venue)
