Duke Street Turnaround is a 5-piece original bluegrass group from Toronto, ON. They bring a youthful, energetic sound to their captivating mix of original and traditional material. With members hailing from different corners of Ontario, they blend local influences with the music of bluegrass and country legends to produce their own exciting brand of acoustic music, showcasing their tight musicianship and harmonies.
Inspired by local history, the band’s goal for their original music is to share powerful moments from their area. From songs about the beauty of the north to gripping tales of murder and jailbreak, the group’s repertoire spans a wide variety of subject matter and diverse musical forms, always linked by the potent tradition of acoustic string band music. They bring together music from over 200 years of history, effortlessly pivoting from 1800s trad fiddle tunes to modern material including covers of contemporary artists like Chris Stapleton and Zach Top. Their improvisational spirit and passion for the music results in an exciting show that ranges from tasteful arrangements of simple traditional ballads to thundering high-octane bluegrass jams.
Duke Street Turnaround has a penchant for upbeat material, dynamic group playing and powerful vocals. Their reputation as a tight, professional group led to the band appearing for an audience of 100,000 people on a livestream with rapper Drake and streamer Adin Ross. They have enjoyed great feedback from their social media content as well as their regular gigs all over the GTA. Their first record is slated for release in June 2026.
