Award-winning vocalist Susana Behar moves between Sephardic song, Cuban rhythms and melodies, and Latin American folklore, shaping them into a distinctly contemporary voice that is entirely her own.

Born in Havana into a Cuban-Jewish Sephardic family, Susana grew up surrounded by two rich musical worlds — the traditional Ladino songs of her Sephardic ancestors and the Cuban rhythms and melodies of her childhood. Later years in Venezuela added Latin American folk music to that foundation. In Miami, all three came together naturally, giving birth to her celebrated program Ladino Meets Latino.

Her notable credits include performances at the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, and festivals across the US, Canada, Latin America, Israel, and Japan. She has produced three albums — La Galana i la Mar, At The Crossroads, Live, and TAPIZ. A 2015

Florida Individual Artist Fellow in Folk and Traditional Arts and the 2020 Artist-in-Residence at HistoryMiami Museum, she is currently Artist-in-Residence and Programming Partner at Miami’s Deering Estate, where she was named 2025 Community Partner of the Year.

Susana continues to honor her ancestors through performance, research, and community engagement.
