Ariane Morin is a Montreal based folk saxophonist active in the Klezmer and Balkan music scene. After years of performing and teaching Klezmer, she was inspired to make her own contribution to the Yiddish dance music tradition. Influenced by the subtle, creative, and expressive interplay between musicians and folk dancers, she composed a series of pieces that are new and unique, yet feel right at home in traditional dance sessions. These original compositions are featured on her brand new album, aptly named “Tantshoyz” recorded in New-York with a stellar band. The album includes her composition Khusidl which won the 2023 “Bubbe award” for instrumental composition.
Ariane will present “Tantshoyz” at Ashkenaz for the first time in public alongside a fine 7-piece klezmer lineup featuring musicians from the US and Canada : Ariane Morin (saxophone), Aaron Alexander (drums), Mark Rubin (bass), Josh Dolgin and Yoni Kaston (accordion and piano), John David Williams (clarinet) and Nathan Dell-Vandenberg (trombone), with traditional dance leading.
