Join Ashkenaz on March 26 as we present a unique new program of music from the Ethiopian-Jewish tradition.
This debut performance of a high-powered instrumental trio specially assembled for this show will incorporate jazz, reggae & indigenous Ethiopian styles as it explores the music of the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewry) and the intersectionality between Ethiopian & Jewish Cultures.
The group features local heroes Daniel Barnes (drums) and Andrew Stewart (bass), each of great repute for their work in the Jazz and Jewish music scenes, joined by Israeli-born, LA-based guitarist Nadav Peled, who Ashkenaz followers will recognize from his previous performances here as part of Ethiopian-Israeli rocker Gili Yalo’s ensemble (2018, 2022).
The event takes place at Hirut Restaurant and Café (2050 Danforth Ave), Toronto’s newest hotspot for live jazz & global music presented in a warm & casual “listening†environment, with authentic Ethiopian cuisine. Call 647-779-1986 for reservations.
Presented by Ashkenaz with the generous support of Kultura Collective and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
