Directed by Ros Horin (Australia, 2024) 95 minutes
An upbeat, witty, and timely snapshot of the global Yiddish cultural renaissance. Australian director Ros Horin takes us inside the art and practices of a diverse group of innovative international artists who create new works about the important issues of our time in the Yiddish language. The film asks why they create in Yiddish, what it means to them personally and professionally, and what obstacles they must overcome to revive what was once considered a dying language. In the end, as we see these artists come together in joyous, vibrant, international festivals to share their works, their skills, and their passion with the next generation. Featuring amazing performances and numerous alumni of the Ashkenaz Festival (YID!, The Bashevis Singers, Sasha Lurje, Sveta Kundish, Polina Shepherd, Alan Bern, Daniel Kahn), some of whom will be present for this screening.
