One of the signature events of the Festival since its inception in 1995, the Ashkenaz parade is a joyous procession of music, pageantry and giant puppets. This year it will take place for the first time at Sherman Campus in North York. This year’s parade is led by Toronto Klezmer Society, a dynamic community group that since 2018 has been bringing together musicians from all backgrounds to learn about klezmer music through jams, workshops, and special performances. Led by drummer Lorie Wolf, the collection features a small core group that often balloons up to two dozen or more with the participation of professionals and enthusiasts alike. Emphasizing fun and community, TKS transmits the spirit of Eastern European Jewish instrumental traditions to new generations. Musicians of all ages, backgrounds and abilities are welcome and encouraged to join in the fun and be part of the Festival’s largest work of art!
